Those of you who have followed my blog for the last decade or so may be shocked to read that I just sold my Bede BD-4C airplane. I am 90% delighted and only 10% sad. Yes, I will miss flying it. The BD-4C is an amazing airplane and it was everything that I wanted it to be.
But…
After three years of procrastinating on the things that still needed to be done, I realized that I should pay attention to what my own choices about where I was spending time were trying to tell me about what was important to me. I really like flying airplanes. I am willing to work on them when I have to but working on airplanes is not something that I want to do. I would rather fly airplanes and ride my bike and do sound for my local community theater troupe and do livestreaming for my congregation and take pictures and… so many other hobbies.
Danny is the new owner of N2468Z. He is actually looking forward to painting the plane, doing its interior, and making it into the flying beauty that it should be.
I know that he will do a great job. And while he is doing that, I will go back to renting airplanes and gleefully leaving the maintenance to someone else.

I love that you can trailer the BD-4C. Danny can drive it to his garage or workshop, and not incur hanger fees while he beautifies/decorates/remodels the plane and interior.

They say that the two happiest days of a boat owner’s life are the day he buys it and the day he sells it. This may apply to planes as well. The most important thing is to know yourself and what is making you happy, then choosing that path. Glad it’s working for you.

Hi Art,
Wow !! That did surprise me, but I understand your reasoning. Sometimes life gets too busy to do all we want to !! I hope to keep in touch and hope that if you ever make it to NZ, you will call into Blenheim and say Hello !!
Blessings,
Owen

Very insightful as I have toyed with buying a BD4 kit. However, like you, I mostly enjoy flying and doing the small potatoes maintenance. Pretty sure that I’m not up to building from scratch.

I’m just sad I didn’t see it for sale
When you were selling it. I just tracked you down to find out more real world data on the 4C and I’d love to buy one there just one but there just are not many available and building takes a while as you know. Beautiful bird you sold. Any chance to know who you sold to?
