Today’s good is butterflies or, more precisely, the noise that butterflies make.
It would be so cool to hear this in person but I’m glad that at least I can watch it on YouTube.

This post is timely, as we are about to see the (October) arrival of large numbers of monarch butterflies. They settle for the winter in several places in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Ardenwood Historic Farm, in Fremont (near the Tesla factory). They depart again in February, moving north to Oregon and Washington.
About 30 years ago, I witnessed a mass migration of monarchs moving in clouds and waves about 10 feet above El Camino Real. It took several minutes for the train of butterflies to pass overhead. Since 1990, their numbers have declined by more than 90%, mostly due to habitat loss. Today, it is unusual to see a butterfly. I might see one every couple of days.
