Lord I’m 500 miles from my home.
500 miles, 500 miles, 500 miles, 500 miles
Lord I’m five hundred miles from my home.
On Sunday morning, I passed 500 miles on my new Trek Verve+ 2 bike. I guess that means it is no longer such a new bike. Just to be excruciatingly honest, I don’t want you to think that I rode all that way in a day, or even in a small number of days. I started in March, when I bought the bicycle. I have logged most of the miles just pedaling around town, running errands and such. But I have definitely had my miles on longer, more scenic trips.
Here I am after riding through Babler State Park with Geoff and Caedmon. The odometer read “500” when Geoff took this shot. Can you tell from my smile?
That was a low stress ride because it was pretty hilly and neither of the other guys realized that I had a battery to help with the steep grades. Poor guys, they were way sweatier than I was when we got back to our cars!
I celebrated the mileage by heading out the next morning on a 16 mile loop around Lakeside 370 Park.
I continue to be delighted with how I can spend more than an hour on my bike, get my heartrate well into zones 2 and 3, and not exhaust myself. In that ride, I was moving for 76 minutes. Of that, I spent 55 in HR zone 2 or 3 and great when I got home. Yay e-bike!
My longest ride, to date, was 28 miles from my house to the Maryland Heights Aquacenter, and back.
I have more adventures to come, that’s for sure. If you are considering an e-bike… just do it.

13.1% maximum grade, says RideWithGPS? Yeah, that’ll shift the muscles to anaerobic mode. Now ride it the other way to suffer even more.

LOL. I’m not that strong! I wish that I was, though.
The electric drive on my bike is a Bosch that has four levels ranging from 40% assistance to 250% assistance (up to 40 NM). Between the 250% and 40 NM and 1st gear and, yeah, some shear muscle, I got to the top of that grade. I’m going to ride it again and take pictures.
I ride most of the time with 40% assistance and I average 12-14 MPH. I’ve got huge respect for the folks who ride regular bikes and are averaging 18 MPH and faster using just muscle. Impressive!

You definitely earned that grin, Art. Congrats!?

Great Grin. What happened to the rest of Art? Haven’t seen you for a while. You must have left some of yourself on all those rides. Continue to enjoy! J
