I rebuilt the aileron cables for my Bede BD-4C and began installing them over the last few days. Here is a picture (click on it to see it larger) of the aileron cables running around the right, rear corner of the fuselage.
At the top, left of this photo, you can see one of the cables coming through the main landing gear box. Since the hole through the gear box is only 0.5 inch across, smaller than the end of the shackle attached to the end of the cable, this cable had to be fabricated in the plane. I ran the cable through the gear box and then crimped the shackle onto the end.
That cable connects to the lower aileron bell crank (the black part). The next cable also attaches to the bell crank, runs through a hole in the fuselage, around the right, rear pulley, and across the fuselage toward the left side.
The cable ends in a turnbuckle (not visible in the photos) which connects to another pair of cables at the left, rear corner of the fuselage.
I have not yet attached the front “half” of the square of aileron cables. When it hit 93 degrees in the garage on Sunday morning, I was done working.
Next up: a trip to AirVenture. If you are up there, give me a holler.
