Thank you, Joseph, for opening my eyes today. He wrote, “The most obvious function of the get-well messages was to help the patient feel better. But it does more than that. It helps the doctors and hospital staff feel good about what they are doing.”
This put me in an introspective mood. All too often I only think of things like get-well cards in terms of how they affect me or (on a good day) how they affect my family and friends. It never occurred to me to consider how the personal touches in a hospital room might touch the hearts of the caregivers.
