Happy Father’s Day, to all of the dads reading this. I am also beaming my gratitude to all of you spouses, SOs, children, and friends who are honoring fathers today.
Happy Juneteenth, to everyone celebrating freedom today.
One way that we are free is by choosing which parts of history to spend time remembering and and which parts to ignore. We all make these choices, even the folks at Google. Today, Google’s home page honors Father’s Day and ignores Juneteenth.
Would you do me a tiny favor today? Take a few seconds and be conscious of your own choice. Are you celebrating Father’s Day, Juneteenth, or both? Why?
One more favor, if you don’t mind: Ask two other people the same questions.
Thanks.
P. S. I categorized this post on my blog under Tzedakah, which is the Hebrew word often translated as charity. For instance, we Jews teach our children to donate money for tzedakah, for charity. In fact, the word means justice, not charity. We see it most famously in Deuteronomy 16:20 which begins, “Justice, justice shall you pursue….” or in Hebrew, “tzedek tzedek tirdof….”
