Give Yourself $100

CNN.com reports, “Every American taxpayer would get a $100 rebate check to offset the pain of higher pump prices for gasoline, under an amendment Senate Republicans hope to bring to a vote Thursday.” You can read the rest of the article in, Senators to push for $100 gas rebate checks.

Cool! The government is going to write me a check for $100. And where does the government get its money? Oh yeah, I almost forgot, from taxpayers like me. I’m thrilled.

But maybe I will be so exuberantly distracted by the $100 check that I will forget about the unpleasant details of raising taxes or borrowing more money to cover the check.
