Deserve a Driver’s License? Prove It!

According to the Post-Dispatch, getting a driver’s license in Missouri is getting a whole lot more difficult and time consuming. From the article:

To renew Missouri drivers license

Beginning Friday, customers at Missouri license offices must provide proof of citizenship, proof of identity and proof of residence. The fee for a regular drivers license is $10 for three years, $20 for six years. Here are some acceptable documents:

• For citizenship: A certified birth certificate issued by a state or local government, a valid or expired U.S. passport, a certificate of citizenship, certificate of naturalization or a certificate of birth abroad.

• For identity: A Social Security card or a Medicare card. If the name on the card doesn’t match the customer’s current name, additional documents must be presented. A complete list of documents that will be accepted as proof of identity will be listed on the Department of Revenue’s Web site, www.dor.mo.gov. Customers can also call 573-751-2730.

• For residence: A recent utility bill, a property tax receipt, a most-recent bank statement, voter ID card or any official letter issued within the last 30 days by another state or local governmental agency on its letterhead.

If an applicant under the age of 21 cannot provide proof of residence, a parent or legal guardian may provide it.

I am sure that the highly efficient license bureaus will handle the additional requirements with aplomb and efficiency.
