Load Acrobat Reader Faster

Forever Geek has a great tidbit on how to make Acrobat load faster on Windows. This made a world of difference for me:

  1. Find the Acrobat Reader folder. On my system, with Acrobat 6 installed, this is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader
  2. Open the plug_ins folder.
  3. Move all of the files and folders to the Optional folder except these three: EWH32.api, printme.api and Search.api. [Added 6/7/05] If you still have Acrobat Reader 5 then you only need to keep EWH32.api and search.api. You do not have printme.api.

Voila! Opening an Adobe Acrobat document will no longer be a race between whether the document will open or whether you will need a second cup of coffee while you are waiting.

(I have heard that this doesn’t work with Acrobat 7. Please leave a comment if you have Acrobat 7 installed and can confirm or update these instructions.)

I made this change (except that I did not have printme.api) for version 7. It works so far without probem.
    Thanks Art
